Initial Drawing

Drawing, either from life, or in the case of the drawing unfolding to the left, from a photograph, is the beginning of the process that results in an original print. The inspiration for the final image, and the impetus to continue, comes from making a drawing such as this.

Some drawings, like this one, don't make it beyond this stage; no further work is done on them, and while the times and places inspiring the images are not forgotten, the drawings do not remain. Others form the very heart and soul of the final print; the image, its construction and composition, carries Marie-Louise through the process.
