End of an era, new beginnings

Last week, after almost 34 years as a member, I collected my belongings from the Black Church Print Studio. It was with a heavy heart that I made the decision not to renew my membership, as I had joined when I left NCAD. But over the last few years I had not worked there, as I found it difficult to get into Temple Bar; as well, I had built my own studio. As I emptied out “my” plan-chest drawer, memories flooded my head.

I remembered my first day in the original studio and John Kelly showing me around, and ending the tour with a mischievous grin he told me about the studio’s central heating. When I couldn’t see any evidence of it, he simply pointed to a skipping rope dangling from an overhead beam!
I have some wonderful, happy memories from those years. But now it is time to move on, and I have been accepted as a member of the Graphic Studio. I look forward to working there in the future.

The image below is "Sophie" she was the first print I completed in the BCPS, and it appears as this month's picture in my calendar.
